EuropaColon Ukraine was established to highlight and raise awareness of colorectal cancer amongst the general population, to emphasise the importance of early diagnosis and to prevent the spread of the cancer.

In order to achieve their aims the group undertook a campaign to obtain donations from companies to raise skills amongst the medical population. The resulting training, using video, helped improve performance and confidence of GI endoscopy specialists in the hospitals.

Every March they run an awareness campaign for those over 50 amongst the general public. This year the campaign was in two parts. Initially an open Facebook group provided educational awareness highlighting the benefits of screening. Secondly, interested parties were offered a free FIT faecal occult blood screening test and any positive results were given a colonoscopy in a private clinic. Consequently 156 people completed the initial test with 26+ results, leading to 14 colonoscopies completed. These patients were then referred to relevant oncologist or surgeon for next steps.

Following the success of this venture, EuropaColon Ukraine will continue to prioritise awareness and created a new dedicated presence on Facebook -

With support from NGO EndoAcademy the group participated in a number Medical training programs on a range of difference and relevant topics to health professionals.

The success of their work in March has motivated the group to expand their awareness activity and to do so are seeking support from the Ministry of Health and other interested bodies to continue throughout the year.
