DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Digestive Cancers Europe is looking for a Director of Operations to assist the CEO in running various projects and initiatives with strong medical and scientific content in the area of digestive cancers.
Title: Director of Operations
Location: Remote (Europe) or Brussels
Employment type: 80% or more, freelance status preferred but not mandatory
Reports to: CEO, Digestive Cancers Europe
Starting date: 5th of January 2023
Director of Operations Responsibilities
- Works with the CEO and other team members to set the organisation’s strategic goals; translating them into specific operational objectives; ensures that strategy is brought into action by delegating it to team members
- Co-creates the projects for the annual plan, together with the CEO and other team members, including the budgets for each project
- Assists the CEO in fundraising activities
- Ensures that projects are delivered within defined timelines and assigned budget and adhere to EU framework (for EU projects) while maintaining all necessary documentation properly
- When needed, produces reports on executed projects
- Manages members of the team
- Safeguards DiCE profile and name and ensures the provision of excellent services to Member Organisations and the community
- Jointly with the CEO, takes care of the current affairs and the daily management of the organisation
- Participates in team meetings and contributes to the growth and development of the organisation
- Encourages staff development and education
- Promotes team spirit to maintain high morale and motivation
- Attends and participates in stakeholder meetings and represents the organization in a number of Committees
- Participate in Conferences
- Participates at Board Meetings when invited
- Any other responsibility assigned by the CEO and the Board
Director of Operations Requirements
- Degree in biomedical sciences, biology, pharmacy or related
- Minimum seven years of experience
- Work experience in related fields and NGOs at the management level
- Scientific and/or medical writing & editing
- Research, analyse, review and present scientific and/or medical-related information accurately, adapting content to the audience’s needs
- Able to take initiative and present new ideas
- Communication with diverse stakeholders and building strong and productive working relationships
- Managing simultaneously diverse projects
- Attention to details and highly organised
- Excellent communication skills
- Flexibility and ability to work remotely and effectively both independently and as part of an international team
- Native level of English language and preferably another European language
- Excellent use of Office tools
- Have a compassionate, human vision of life and interest in improving the lives of cancer patients and carers
- Expert knowledge and interest in the policy and EU healthcare environment
- A positive attitude and team spirit, with leadership and organisational skills
- Respect for internal processes and procedures
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Financial, IT and Office Management systems
- Have a good rapport with stakeholders, potential funders and member organisations
Desirable
- Experience with writing patient and healthcare professional information
- Experience in working in the areas of health, cancer, and treatments
- Experience in working in a patient organisation
- Experience with working with healthcare professionals
- Experience in EU grant writing
