Juliana Calheiros
Medical & Scientific EU Project Officer
Juliana Calheiros is originally from Portugal and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Aveiro, as well as a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Porto. She has over seven years of experience in oncology research, with a strong focus on translational precision medicine and the preclinical development of targeted therapies. Her research has centred on the identification and characterisation of biomarkers and the development of novel therapeutic strategies that disrupt cancer survival mechanisms at the DNA repair level, particularly in hard-to-treat cancers, including digestive cancers.
Juliana joined Digestive Cancers Europe as a Medical and Scientific Project Officer, where she applies her scientific expertise to support medical and research initiatives with clear, robust, and patient-centred evidence. Her work bridges oncology research and scientific communication, contributing to efforts that promote early detection, innovation in cancer treatment, improved health literacy, and equitable access to high-quality digestive cancer care across Europe.
