Alena Annbalou Hasenburg

Dr. Alena Annbalou Hasenburg is a resident physician in Hematology, Oncology and Cancer Immunology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, where she is completing her specialist training in Hematology and Medical Oncology.

She obtained her M.D. degree in 2021 and completed her doctoral thesis in 2024 on progression patters of glioblastoma under Tumor Treating Fields at the department of Neurosurgery at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany.

Her clinical and scientific work now focuses on gastrointestinal oncology, particularly colorectal cancer. At Charité, she is part of the colorectal cancer working group under the mentorship of Professor Stintzing. Her research interests include early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC), metastatic colorectal cancer, and molecularly defined tumor subgroups.

Her current research aims to better understand the etiology, clinical impact, and distinct characteristics of EOCRC through the systematic analysis of clinical, pathological, molecular, treatment-related, and patient-reported data. A particular focus lies on identifying risk factors, evaluating survivorship issues, and developing research tools that reflect the specific needs and perspectives of younger patients with colorectal and other gastrointestinal malignancies.

Dr. Hasenburg is a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internistische Onkologie (AIO) as well as European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and is actively involved in academic and collaborative research initiatives in gastrointestinal oncology.
