Laure Chotel
Laure Chotel entered the world of cancer in January 2021 with her husband’s diagnosis of incurable metastatic colorectal cancer at 43 years old.
Laure committed herself to helping her husband access the best possible treatment, but she encountered a number of difficulties: access to innovative treatments and molecular testing in France and Europe, inclusion/exclusion criteria for participating in clinical trials, lack of treatment options for certain mutations, the role of the caregiver in supporting their loved one, unequal access to information and medical expertise, etc. These difficulties led Laure to become aware of the injustices suffered by patients and caregivers. That is why she now strives to support other patients and caregivers.
Laure Chotel is now a colorectal cancer patient advocate, involved in clinical research and HTA. She belongs to patient organizations in France (Mon Réseau Cancer Colorectal), Europe (Digestive Cancers Europe) and the USA (Colontown). Laure represents patients and caregivers at the institutional and industry levels and represents them within various organizations (ethics committee in France, Cancéropôle Est, Unicancer, etc.).
She is a EUPATI fellow (European Patients Academy on Therapeutics Innovation), holds a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, a discipline in which she has published, and has worked in higher education for over 15 years.
