Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses medicines to kill cancer cells. Although chemotherapy is widely used for many types of cancer, it is not used very often for liver cancer, because there are questions around how effective it is in this type of cancer. But it may be used to try to control the tumour and reduce symptoms.

Chemotherapy is given via tablets (orally) or intravenously (into a vein).
Chemotherapy can cause unpleasant side effects, including tiredness, nausea and hair loss. These may be controlled with medicines and usually go away after treatment.
