Gallbladder Cancer Risk Factors & Prevention
Prevention
There is no definitive way to prevent most gallbladder cancers, as many risk factors, such as age, sex, ethnicity, and bile duct abnormalities, are beyond our control. However, certain lifestyle changes may help lower the risk.
Adopting the following habits can promote overall health and potentially reduce the risk of gallbladder cancer and other types of cancer:
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Stay physically active and minimise prolonged sitting or lying down.
- Follow a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while limiting red and processed meats, sugary beverages, and highly processed foods.
- Avoid alcohol, or if you choose to drink, limit intake to no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men (Zhou et al., 2020, p. 490).
