Advancing Rare Cancer Care: DiCE at the EURACAN Board Meeting
On the 7th and the 8th of November, Laura Urena from Digestive Cancers Europe (DiCE) and a member of EURACAN Patient Advocacy Group (EPAG), participated in the EURACAN Board meeting at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology in Warsaw, Poland. This gathering brought together key stakeholders to discuss progress, share insights, and strengthen collective efforts towards enhancing access to effective cancer care for patients with rare cancer diagnoses.
EURACAN is a virtual network that connects patients, healthcare providers, and experts across Europe to address the challenges of complex and rare cancers. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, EURACAN aims to improve diagnosis, treatment, and support for individuals affected by these difficult-to-treat cancers, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes across the continent.
Among the cancers EURACAN focuses on are rare digestive cancers, including cancers of the anus, appendix, gallbladder, and small intestine. These cancers are often harder to detect and have limited treatment options, making early diagnosis and specialised care critical. Through its network, EURACAN and DiCE work to improve awareness, research, and treatment access for these rare cancers, offering hope and support to patients and families facing these challenging diagnoses.
