Digestive Cancers Europe (DiCE) participated in the 2nd General Assembly of the EU-CIP project, held in Budapest on 18–19 June 2026. Ana Martins, Director of EU Programmes, and Laura Ureña, Medical & Scientific EU Project Communication Officer, attended the assembly on behalf of DiCE.

EU-CIP, the European Cancer Information Portal, is working to build a trusted and patient-friendly European website where people affected by cancer can find clear, reliable, and accessible information. The project brings together partners from across Europe to improve cancer information, reduce inequalities, and help patients, carers, and families navigate the cancer journey with greater confidence.

During the General Assembly, partners reviewed progress in the project’s first year and discussed next steps to develop and implement the portal. The meeting included updates on project coordination, evidence-based information, quality criteria, ethics, sustainability planning, implementation in different countries, and patient engagement. A key focus of the meeting was ensuring that the future portal reflects real user needs.

DiCE contributes to EU-CIP mainly through Citizens’ Engagement and Participation and also supports the Outreach and Dissemination activities. Through Citizens’ Engagement and Participation, DiCE helps bring the voice of digestive cancer patients, carers, and advocates into the project. This includes supporting validation activities, helping identify what information patients need, and ensuring patient feedback is considered in developing the portal. Through Outreach and Dissemination, DiCE supports communication efforts to make the project more visible and understandable to the wider public and patient communities.

For the public, the value of EU-CIP is simple but important: people affected by cancer should not have to search through confusing or unreliable sources to find information they can trust. The future EU-CIP portal aims to provide clear, evidence-based information that supports patients and families at different stages of the cancer journey, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment, survivorship, and care.

DiCE’s participation helps ensure that this European tool is not only scientifically comprehensive but also practical, accessible, and relevant for the people who will use it. By bringing patient voices into the project, DiCE is helping to shape a portal that responds to real needs and supports better-informed decisions for cancer patients, carers, and families across Europe.
