Ensuring the Patient Voice in Research - Irish Initiative Shows the Way

Oncology nurse practitioner, research assistant and Education Working Group co-Chair of the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS), Celia Díez de los Ríos is undergoing her PhD on the role of healthcare professionals in promoting lifestyle behaviours with people that have high cancer risk.

To begin the project the study team have done a systematic review and are now planning a Delphi study with healthcare professionals and semi-structured interviews with people with genetic mutations that affect their cancer risk. These two phases will allow the researchers to identify key areas that require special attention and intervention to improve the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits and support people at risk of cancer.  Part of the research team includes two people affected by these genetic mutations who are helping with the study. They have piloted the interview and are helping to analyse the data and to develop the educational programme.

Now she is looking for healthcare professionals who may be able to give their input and for individuals with high susceptibility to cancer (due to Lynch syndrome, for example) who would be interested in being part of the semi-structured interviews.

If this speaks to you and you would like to take part or know someone who could help we ask you to reach out directly to research.assistant@cancernurse.eu  or at cdiezdde7@alumnes.ub.edu.
