Empowering Cancer Patients: SmartCARE Showcase Event
The SmartCARE Showcase Event, organised by the European Cancer Organisation, brought together patient advocates, clinicians, and IT experts to introduce an innovative application designed for cancer patients who contributed to the development of the SmartCARE application. Participants from across Europe shared their unique perspectives, offering an in-depth understanding of the app’s features, inputs, and outputs.
A key highlight of the event was the “Demo Session”, where attendees explored the app through a hands-on experience. Participants enthusiastically tested the application’s four modules (Resources, Community, MyHealth and TeleHealth), which are designed to empower end-users—cancer patients—by enabling them to personalise the app with their health parameters and information. This customisation ensures the app meets individual needs while providing access to professional and scientific resources.
What sets SmartCARE apart, however, is its groundbreaking TeleHealth feature, which directly connects patients with healthcare professionals, bridging a crucial gap in patient-centred care.
Following the demo session, the event concluded with a Feedback Circle where project officers from the European Commission, beneficiaries, and patient representatives engaged in dynamic discussions. Participants collaborated to address pre-prepared questions, sparking meaningful conversations about the app’s development and potential future improvements.
The event’s success was evident in its seamless organisation, engaging atmosphere, and the professionalism of the panels. Attendees left feeling inspired by the application’s potential to transform daily healthcare practices for both patients and professionals.
Looking ahead, the challenge lies in integrating SmartCARE into routine use. Achieving this milestone promises to enhance the quality of life for patients and support healthcare providers in delivering tailored, efficient care.
