International Symposium on “EARLY-ONSET COLORECTAL CANCER” – Milan, 01 – 02 September 2022
DiCE was invited to participate in the symposium organised by the gastroenterology and gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit from the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan to update the 28 statements for the management of EO-CRC.
The incidence of colorectal cancer before the age of 50 is increasing worldwide. Patients with early onset colorectal Cancer EO-CRC are managed according to CRC guidelines that are not specific to this age group.
A multidisciplinary international group (DIRECt) was convened to develop the first evidence-based consensus recommendations for the management of EO-CRC. The DIRECt group produced 28 statements in 7 areas of interest: diagnosis, screening, genetics, pathology-oncology, endoscopy, therapy, and end-stage disease.
DiCE was part of the discussion on the new EO-CRC guidelines for the first time and provided input from the patient’s perspective. The young population has specific characteristics and needs to be taken into consideration. More data on the EO-CRC patient’s profile experience, quality of life, and needs are necessary to design future guidelines and supportive programs targeting the young population.
