The PRESSURE Consortium, a European research network focused on training the next generation of scientists in oesophageal cancer, held its second annual meeting in August in Nynäshamn, Sweden. The event brought together Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) and their supervisors for two days of scientific exchange, progress updates and collaboration.

ESRs presented findings from their projects, covering areas such as oesophageal cancer biology, mechanisms of treatment resistance and emerging therapeutic targets. These sessions were complemented by expert-led presentations addressing current challenges in the field and future opportunities for research and innovation.

A key highlight was the keynote lecture from Professor Matteo Bottai of Karolinska Institutet, who shared fresh perspectives on research methodology and its application in cancer studies, offering valuable guidance for both early-career and established researchers.

Annual meetings are central to the PRESSURE Consortium’s mission to build research capacity, strengthen cross-border collaboration and support scientific advances that can lead to better outcomes for people affected by oesophageal cancer. The consortium will continue this work at its next annual meeting in 2026, to be held in Palermo, Italy.
