Work on pancreatic cancer has continued since the Position Paper was shared ahead of the 2024 European elections. With the new Parliament in place, partner organisations have stepped up efforts to improve awareness, early detection and care across Europe.

What has happened since May 2024

Partners — including Pancreatic Cancer Europe, Cancer Patients Europe, Digestive Cancers Europe, the European Pancreatic Club and United European Gastroenterology — have delivered public campaigns on warning signs, addressed common myths, and supported targeted awareness actions. Webinars have explored how EU health technology assessment affects patient access, and events in the European Parliament have highlighted inequalities in cancer care and the links between obesity and digestive cancers.

Scientific work has moved forward with new and updated guidance, improved research coordination, and stronger links between European research groups. This has included fellowships, scientific exchanges, shared EU projects such as GUIDE.MRD and Holosurge, and ongoing work through the PancreOS Project to prepare evidence-based guidelines for 2025.

What is coming next

Activity is planned through to 2026, including campaigns for World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, further expert webinars, and the next DiCE Masterclass in July 2026. Work will continue on early detection, support for primary care, quality standards for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, and improved pain management in acute pancreatitis.

DiCE will remain closely involved alongside its partners, with continued engagement from policymakers essential to support better outcomes for people affected by pancreatic cancer and their families.
