How should healthcare systems decide which new cancer treatments to fund when resources are limited? Your experience and perspective can help answer this important question.

Digestive Cancers Europe (DiCE) invites people affected by digestive cancers to take part in a European survey exploring how patients value different characteristics of new health technologies when healthcare resources are limited.

The survey is part of the Horizon Europe-funded ASCERTAIN (ACCESS2MEDS) project, which aims to improve equitable access to innovative medicines and health technologies across Europe.

Why your voice matters

Every day, healthcare systems face difficult decisions about which new treatments to fund and make available to patients. These decisions consider many factors, including clinical benefit, cost, affordability and long-term sustainability.

The ASCERTAIN project is developing an open-access policy support tool to help decision-makers better evaluate the value of innovative health technologies. Patient perspectives are a vital part of this work, ensuring that future decisions reflect what matters most to the people who may ultimately receive these treatments.

Alongside patients, the project brings together clinicians, health technology assessment (HTA) experts, payers, regulators and industry representatives to develop fairer and more transparent approaches to access across Europe.

What does the survey involve?

The survey asks participants to complete a series of simple choice exercises comparing hypothetical treatment options. There are no right or wrong answers. Instead, the survey explores which treatment characteristics patients consider most important when resources are limited.

The survey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and is available in multiple European languages.

Who can participate?

The survey is intended for patients and people with lived experience of cancer in the participating countries. By sharing your views, you can help ensure that future healthcare policies better reflect patient priorities when evaluating innovative medicines, diagnostics and other health technologies.
