Policy News - Looking ahead to 2022!

As 2021 draws to a close, DiCE will use its policy and political outreach activities carried out during the year as a strong basis for its work in 2022.

Key policy points that DiCE has been monitoring and adding input and feedback on this year have been the following:

As announced by EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, the European Commission (EC) has published the implementation roadmap of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. For those interested, you can find more information and download the roadmap.

More specifically, the EC’s new cancer screening scheme aims to help EU countries ensure that 90% of the EU population who qualify for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings are offered screening by 2025. The Commission will therefore update its 2003 guidance (Council Recommendation) on cancer screening based on the latest scientific advice and will consider extending screening to other types of cancer.

In line with this, DiCE has continued its work in leading the European Health Policy Platform’s Stakeholder Network on Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Screening. Following an event in June on ‘Colorectal Cancer Screening: Lessons Learned from Covid-19‘, it held its 2nd Colorectal Cancer Screening Summit on Tuesday November 30 bringing together the CRC screening community to discuss how screening is best implemented to reach these new EC screening guidelines.

Into 2022, DiCE will monitor progress on these points and will work to report on any other consultative initiatives of interest to our Members.
